Array Methods & Properties

Shift

Shift allows us to remove the first item in the array. It works similar to pop. Consider the following code from our baseball array we have been using…

baseballCards.shift();
console.log( baseballCards );

The output will be ‘Ruth’, ‘Wagner’, ‘Uecker’.

It basically removes the item and shifts everything over.

There might be times you wish to remove an item from an array, but still keep it for some usage. We can store it in a variable…

let greatHomeRunHitter = baseballCards.shift();
console.log( greatHomeRunHitter);

The output will be Aaron given our original added array.

Happy Coding!

A Friendly Introduction to the Document Object Model (DOM) API

The Document Object Model (DOM) is the browser’s in-memory representation of your HTML, letting JavaScript select elements (querySelector), listen to events (addEventListener), update content (textContent), toggle styles (classList), and create/insert nodes (createElement, insertAdjacentElement). With it, a button can change a box’s text, toggle a highlight class, set a data attribute, or insert a new paragraph right after the box—no page reload required—illustrating the simple flow: select, listen, update.
